Word on the street

The night I returned from the workshop on writing better letters to the editor and OpEds, I received the following comments from online friends. Any ideas on how to answer them?:

1) Unfortunately I think the democratic party has attempted to decide the election. By reversing it's earlier stance that delegate votes from Michigan and Florida would not count, they caved in and awarded them anyway. So that is just nore of "the rules don't count if things don't go my way". Then, they decide to award some Michigan delegate votes to Obama. He was not on the ballot in Michigan, and again, for ethical reasons, I don't think ANY delegate votes rom Michigan should have gone to him. And although he talks about changing "politics as usual" he accepts delegate votes he is not really entitiled to.
And no, I'm not a Hillary supporter either.
So, McCain, flaws and all, still gets my vote. He admits when he's wrong, he accepts responsibility (in good military fashion) for mistakes his underlings make, and although I don't agree with some of his views, I think, between him and Obama, he will be the strongest leader. He'll need some "tweaking" by his advisors regarding some domestics issues, and he's smart enough to know he needs to get some outstanding economic advisors, too. I don't think he'll surround himself with people who tell him only what he wants to hear (like Bush has done). He reaches across party lines and seeks compromise and reform; he has a record of doing that (that for whatever reason ptics off the conservative republicans). He needs a good VP to run with him and I think he'll beat Obama. I woudn't have said that with the same confidence if Hillary was the democratic nominee!

2) I agree 100% that BHO is one of the most gifted orators around. His style is reminiscent of a pulpit preachers who could really rally the crowd but I do not believe he is the right candidate at this time.I cannot back someone who says Israel must be defended at all costs on Sunday and by Tuesday has already changed his position. I cannot support someone who throws his grandmother under the bus by calling her "typical white person". I cannot support a candidate who's wife called persons ofanother ethnic heritage "whitey". I personally believe that he and hiswife both harbor racist, elitist attitudes towards others and that themedia is pushing his acceptance on everyone. There are more qualifiedblack politicians out there! What disturbs me the most is the fact that he has a 50% chance of becomingthe next president. His position of sitting down and talking with radicalleaders is naive! What are they going to talk about? Milk and cookies? The weather? These people want to kill us! Sitting down and talking tothem will only empower their objectives. Are we willing to sacrifice amajor American city to a terrorist attack? Or, a nuclear attack on Israel resulting in the entire Middle East exploding in war? I fear that is whatwill happen under the BHO presidency. Hitler once said that he could never understand why he was never stopped earlier. It would have taken just 100,000 troops to stop him cold. Instead, Chamberlain gave him the opportunity to increase his military and grow ever stronger. In the end, 15,000,000 paid the uptimate price for"Peace in our Time". I fear for this country! I really do! I can see New York or Chicago being attacked with a nuclear device. It may only be a dirty bomb but a bomb never the less. As for the gas prices, in February of 2007 when the Congress became a majority of Democrates, gas was $2.58 per gallon. Now that we have aSenate and Congress full of Democrats, gas has gone through the roof. Some might argue that it is the president's fault but we both know that all legislation comes from Congress the president is just the scape goat!Getting back to BHO, I e-mailed Hillary's campaign and encouraged her toaccept the Vice Presidency if offered to her. My reasoning, BHO willbecome the first president in American history to be successfully impeachedand Hillary will become President through default. Now THAT'S a scarythought!!!
